PORTLAND OPEN SPACE SEQUENCE

The 1960s were a time of transformation, enlightenment — and revolution. During this time of rapid change, leaders in Portland were looking for ways to bring nature back to the heart of the city. Enter Lawrence Halprin — a renowned landscape architect with profound new ideas about how people and parks come together. His revolutionary approach gave life to the Fountain District, an urban oasis of interconnected parks, plazas, and fountains.

Through the combined efforts of the Halprin Landscape Conservancy, neighbors, and the local business community, these visionary parks are enjoying a second wave of transformation and rebirth.
