Explore Portland’s Open Space Sequence on July 30
The Cultural Landscape Foundation celebrates Lawrence Halprin’s legacy with two free tours of Portland’s Open Space Sequence on July 30. This tour is part of a larger program intended to celebrate the life and legacy of landscape architect Lawrence Halprin.

Guides: Randy Gragg and Steven Koch
As founding members and current and past presidents of the Halprin Landscape Conservancy, both Gragg and Koch actively work to conserve Halprin’s sequence of public parks. They will guide participants through the interconnected spaces and provide a brief history of the landscape and Halprin’s vision for the park, including a discussion of the notable public process involved in its design. Gragg and Koch will speak about the nonprofit’s plans for restoring the parks, their current efforts and next steps involved in preserving public space.

Randy Gragg heads the University of Oregon’s John Yeon Center for Architectural Studies, a program of the School of Architecture and Allied Arts located in Portland, Oregon. He is an experienced editor and journalist focusing on art, architecture and urban planning issues.
Steven Koch is the founding principal and lead designer at Koch Landscape Architecture in Portland, Oregon. His first professional landscape architecture position was in the office of Lawrence Halprin between 1990 and 1996.
